| space and blocks and blocks and space |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|01:37 pm] |
i recently discovered that i'm rapidly running out of block space on my wii console. moreover, i learned that you can't really run games (wiiware and virtual console games) off of the SD card (if you do, you need to have the space available on the console to run it despite it not being stored there) and that if you have save data, that needs to be on the console in order to be accessible as well (i think, i don't remember exactly). this, of course, was kind of off-putting.
so, i've got some questions on blocks (of memory):
- what are people doing to make it easier to manage the blocks of memory on their wii and SD cards?
- in particular how are people using SD cards?
- i heard that you can delete wiiware and virtual console games and that you can download them again whenever. is this true?
- do the newer wii consoles come with more space?
i really love supporting the whole wiiware effort. i've got quite a number of downloaded titles. it'd be a shame if i can't do that anymore. if anyone can shed light on this situation, i'd appreciate it.
OH AND ALSO: someone should look into replacing the background image for the header of the community's journal view. it's a dead photobucket link. |

| New Wii user, looking for recomendations |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|12:59 pm] |
Ok, so the wife and I picked up a new Wii system for the family for Christmas.
Its something I've wanted to do for a while, I've poked at the wii a few times at friends houses, but never really sat down with one and PLAYED before.
We've got the 2 controllers/nunchucks, we've got it hooked to the internet.
We've poked at Wii Sports, Wii Spore Hero (My son >loves< it), Wii Arcade? (not thrilled), Madagascar Racing game (Good fun) and.. Wii Deca Sports (Havent tried it yet).
What we're wondering is.. Where do we go from here?
What are the "Must Have" games for Kids? For adults? We have our two kids who are 3 & 6 yrs old, but also have neighbor kids over ranging in age from 6-12. Any recomendations for them?
Are there any particular accessories we should look at picking up?
Problems found so far:
In the Madagascar racing game, it seems like the turning is very.. soft. it takes a long time sometimes for it to respond to a left or right turn.
When using the remote on the menu screens, we seem to have a lot of Shake in the pointer. I've tried changing the sensitivity, and it doesn't seem to help. Right now we're about 5-8 away from the TV depending on if we're sitting or standing while playing. the Sensor Bar is on top of the TV which is about 5' off the ground. Should we have it lower? Below the screen instead? |

| Profhydron's Pokemon of the Day: Clefable |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|02:19 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | bouncy | ] | With the much anticipated release of HeartGold/Soulsilver in the new year, I'm reminiscing about the events and pokemon that made that generation so much fun. So I turned to Monday nights at Mt. Moon where the Clefairy Dance took place. Clefable, Clefairy's evolution is such an interesting pokemon, since the early days it's had a wide movepool and you never really know what you're going to get from it until it uses a move. Things have only gotten better for it over the years and now in Gen IV, it received a wonderful gift in it's exclusive ability: Magic Guard.
Now it can use Toxic Orb/Facade without the Poison damage, abuse lack of Life Orb recoil damage, and though it suffers ATK loss from BRN (it doesn't lose any HP though!) and SPD loss from PRZ (it can't ever be fully paralyzed!), it's become quite a force. After reviewing Smogon's list (Serebii hasn't covered it yet for Gen IV). One cornerstone move has always been Softboiled, but it's always used to keep Clefable alive in Singles. Though I understand the hesitance to leave a pokemon on the field with no actual attacks, Clefable's support movepool should more than enough to bolster it's teammate both offensively and defensively. | Issues with Guitar Hero: World Tour |
[Dec. 27th, 2009|08:35 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | irritated | ] | Hey, I'm having a bit of an issue with GH: World Tour recently. I will either be in the middle of a song or have just started a song and I will hear the clanging strumming sound as if I hit the strum bar myself (which I didn't). It's starting to strum of its own accord and thus either making me miss or ruin notes therefore making the songs (let alone the guitar duels omg) difficult and just annoying in general. I read in a lot of places about the slide bar and that that may be an issue but I'm not sure what exactly to do about that. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
And I only have one guitar before you ask. |

http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2009/12/27/happy-birthday-melissa-5 Shhhh! Don't tell anyone.. but it's a pretty big day today. She may not want to make a big fuss and hope everyone's still distracted with their relatives and after Christmas sales to notice... But today is a day worth smiling about, as it is now only two weeks until droves of Harry Potter migrate to New York City - and not for a premiere or a ploy to free another house elf..

| White Cargo (1942)
|
[Dec. 27th, 2009|09:55 pm] |
Poor Hedy Lamarr. The Viennese actress was signed by MGM largely on the strength of her exotic beauty and on the notoriety engendered by her nude scenes in her first European movie, Ekstase, made in 1933. But MGM didn’t seem to know what do with her other than putting her in roles that traded on her exoticism. And roles like Tondelayo in White Cargo were not exactly going to enhance any actress’s reputation.

| Star Wars Epics |
[Dec. 26th, 2009|08:59 pm] |

Star Wars Epics (also known as Epics) is primarily a play by post roleplaying site, with forums dedicated to Star Wars discussion as well as media, culture, entertainment, and current events. Set 12 years after the Battle of Endor, the site is currently setting the bar as an independently owned and operated, unofficial, not-for-profit, roleplaying-centered Star Wars website, with a blossoming, entirely flame-free fan community. The use of the word Epics is no attempt to exaggerate the quality of the site; rather it is an attempt to show an aspect of the site's roleplaying which is unique to the genre: each member, from the original founders circa 1999, and everyone that has joined since, can trace their original characters from their first "introductory post" through one continuing massive story, up to today.
Why should you join Epics?
Longevity: Star Wars Epics has been in existence as a roleplaying group in various forms since 1999 and has grown steadily, despite jumping formats several times.
Originality: Star Wars Epics has been copied more than once, in both design and content, by more boards than we can count. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, in our opinion -- but we still try to stay one step ahead.
Management: Every admin reads every post made on the board every day, responds to every PM, is accessible on various IM devices, and every question posted by anyone is answered in 24 hours or less -- usually our replies are within minutes. Oh, and we actually roleplay in the stories ourselves too!
Activity: Star Wars Epics doesn't pad our number of daily posts with spam threads, or spamming in hidden forums, bumping old topics, misrepresenting our member count, or hacking our "members online" list to show fake visitors. What you see is what you get, and we feel that honesty is the best policy.
Community: Star Wars Epics is entirely composed of mature, intelligent people of all ages (17-40+), all of whom get along with each other and with the staff. Our board is drama-free, and we have had to hide threads or edit posts for content only a handful of times, in the entirety of our online existence.
Talent: Let's face it, we're good. Admins from other Star Wars roleplaying sites have eschewed their own boards and come to our site to write when they want quality roleplaying.
But don't take our word for it. Here's a sample of our roleplays (chosen at random from our recent threads):
The Fifth - a Free Zone story (bios aren't required in this forum) Treason: A Rogue Squadron Tale - some of the New Republic's finest find themselves framed for treason and murder Bravi'os: Requiem - a Star Wars horror story Imperial Renaissance - the rebirth of the Empire 12 years after Endor Epics Infinities - what might have happened had the Empire won at Endor?
And here's a collection of unsolicited praise we've received: Praise for Epics

Today, my own personal "Golden Girl" passed away at 92 years old. She was one of the greatest people I had ever met (she really was like a second mother to me). It was her, in fact, that first introduced me to the Golden Girls when I was 4 years old. I always went to her when I needed someone; she was my everything. Even though I am sad now, I know that I will always have her with me whenever I watch Blanche, Rose, Sophia, and Dorothy. |

| Star of the Week - Alexis Smith |
[Dec. 26th, 2009|08:56 pm] |
Our featured star this week is Alexis Smith. Not one of the top rank of stars, but the Canadian-born actress had a long and varied career.
What do you think were her most memorable movie performances? What were her greatest strengths (or greatest weaknesses) as an actress?

Alexis Smith in Joseph Losey's The Sleeping Tiger (1954) |
